Varied winter holidays in Mariapfarr

When you think of winter holidays in Austria, the first thing that comes to mind is probably skiing. And of course, the conditions in and around Mariapfarr, which is itself at 1,110 m above sea level, are ideal for this. But the Lungau holiday region also has a lot to offer off-piste. Fans of Nordic skiing can head to the Lignitz cross-country skiing centre, where you can also try out the laser biathlon. We’ve listed some other winter activities for you below.
The deep snow-covered landscape invites you to go on a winter walk

Winter hiking

In the winter, when Mariapfarr is buried deep in snow, the winter hiking trails around the village invite you to take long unhurried walks. On the solar educational trail, which can also be walked easily during winter, you’ll come across display boards with information about our solar system (length 4 km, walking time approx. 1.5 hours).
The winter hikes to the Lignitztal valley (moderately difficult, length 2.5 km, walking time approx. 50 minutes), to Frimlkapelle (difficult, length 8 km, walking time approx. 2.5 hours) or to Kobaltsattel (difficult, length 14 km, walking time approx. 3 hours) are also highly recommended!
Tobogganing - great fun in the Lungau holiday region

When was the last time you hurtled down into a valley on a sled and felt like a kid again? Tobogganing is great fun for young and old, and therefore a perfect addition to the schedule during your next winter holiday in Mariapfarr.
In the Lungau holiday region, there are lots of toboggan runs where you can hire toboggans, and some also offer refreshments on site. In Mariapfarr, you can go sledging at the Wielandhof snack bar (up to 2 km depending on snow conditions, floodlit). The longest toboggan run in the Lungau holiday region is 3.5 km and can be found in Lessach.
